Chevrolet Standard Safety Features

With global technological advancements, automakers such as General Motors are incorporating artificial intelligence techniques to manufacture vehicles with excellent safety features. Chevrolet’s new range of vehicles for the 2022 model year comes with stunning revamps and upgraded standard safety features.

For example, the Lane Keep Assist feature helps you drive within your lane markings on long highway stretches until you turn on your signal at your exit. It notifies you if you go astray from the lane to avoid a collision with other road users. Safety has always been at the core of Chevrolet’s manufacturing journey. Below, our experts at Eskridge Chevrolet in Oklahoma discuss the new safety features of the 2022 Chevy models and how they help drivers.

General Safety Features

Chevrolet released a new safety feature, Chevy Safety Assist, for the 2022 model year. The Chevy Safety Assist upgrade offers the following six features:

  • Forward Collision Alert: Available on all models, this feature warns you when it detects an obstruction that’s a front-end collision risk. It works with camera technology to automatically allow you to hard brake to avoid a collision.
  • Lane Keep Assist with Departure Warning: This feature helps prevent unintentional drifts from your lane by identifying lane markings using front-facing cameras, which allows the system to intervene if you go over them. The lane departure warning alerts you using lights, sounds, or vibrations from the steering wheel.
  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB): Automatic emergency braking identifies possible collisions using sensors and cameras and automatically activates the brakes to slow down your vehicle before impact or bring it to a stop.
  • Front Pedestrian Braking: Your vehicle alerts you when it detects a potential collision with a pedestrian directly ahead. The vehicle automatically applies the brakes to avoid or minimize the impact of a collision.
  • IntelliBeam Auto High Beams: The IntelliBeam technology is a lighting feature that turns your car’s high beams on and off according to the traffic. The lights help with night visibility by automatically turning on the high beams when no other vehicles are present and turning them off when other cars are around.
  • Following Distance Indicator: This feature shows the gap time in seconds between your vehicle and the detected vehicle you’re following. It uses the front-facing camera to help you sense vehicles you’re following too closely.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The revamped 2022 Silverado 1500 has the following new safety assist features:

  • Super Cruise: It’s only available on the Silverado’s highest trim level, the High Country, making it the first Chevy pickup to boast the Super Cruise option. Super Cruise is a hands-free driver assistance technology feature that you can use for over 200,000 miles.
  • Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert: This trailering feature provides side-mirror alerts when your Chevy senses a vehicle in the blind zone of the trailer sides. It uses hidden radar sensors to help you navigate lanes on Guthrie highways.
  • HD Rear Vision Camera: When you activate the reverse gear, this safety feature provides a view of what’s behind your Silverado 1500 on a screen. It helps you avoid hitting objects behind you and assists you with parking.

2022 Chevrolet Suburban

The Chevy Suburban‘s standard safety assist features include:

  • Stability Control: The control feature automatically senses when your vehicle is at its handling limits. It works by minimizing engine power and applying the brakes to ensure you don’t lose control of the vehicle.
  • Reverse Automatic Braking: This feature automatically activates the car’s brakes when it senses a potential collision while you’re in reverse mode. This brake activation helps prevent damage caused by low-speed parking impacts.
  • Buckle to Drive: This restricts you from shifting out of park if you haven’t buckled up your seat belt. This technology works with the Teen Driver mode to encourage seat belt usage before driving off.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse

The 2022 Chevy Traverse has the following standard safety features:

  • Safety Seat Alert: Available on the Premier and High Country trims, this feature works by automatically pulsating the right, left, or both sides of the seat in your Traverse. These pulsations help you detect the direction of a potential collision while maneuvering Guthrie terrain.
  • Rear Pedestrian Alerts: This safety feature sends alerts to warn you of any pedestrians at a close range while reversing. It’s available on the RS, Premier, and High Country trims and uses rear sensors.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox

The 2022 Chevy Equinox boasts the following safety features:

  • Side Blind Zone Alert: This feature provides side mirror visual alerts when your Chevy detects a vehicle in your blind zone. The system uses sensors on the rear bumper, which must always be clear of obstructions.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: Available on all Equinox trims, this system helps your Chevy maintain a safe distance and stay within the speeding limit by automatically adjusting your vehicle’s speed.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System: This feature uses sensors to monitor tire pressure continually, sending a dashboard alert if the pressure is low.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

The new Bolt EUV has these safety features:

  • StabiliTrak: This feature monitors and adjusts your car’s steering, braking, and traction to help you drive in a straight line. It uses sensors to continually detect the location of your vehicle’s steering wheel and tires.
  • Pedestrian Safety Signal: When approaching pedestrians on Guthrie roads, this safety feature alerts them of your vehicle’s presence to keep them safe and prevent a collision. The system uses an automated external sound generator when driving at low speeds.
  • Rear Seat Reminder: This feature sends an alert to remind you of the child, pet, or any delicate item on the rear seat. It’s activated when you open any rear doors before you drive off.

Fold down the third-row seats for double the storage, with 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space.

Despite its smaller size, there’s still plenty of space in the 2022 Chevy Tahoe, too. The SUV has 25.5 cubic feet of space in the cargo area and 72.6 cubic feet of space available when you fold down the third-row seats.

No matter how much cargo you’re carrying, it’s easy to stay organized with plenty of convenient storage features in these SUVs. Both the Tahoe and Suburban come standard with a cargo management system, which includes adjustable dividers to keep items from shifting while you’re driving. In the cabin, you can organize smaller items in the front center console with a hidden storage drawer. State-of-the-art technology features come standard in the infotainment systems for both the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban. A 10.2-inch multi-touch infotainment system comes standard on most models of both SUVs, featuring Bluetooth streaming and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The infotainment system offers available Google built-in compatibility, which uses voice-activated technology to enhance your driving experience. In most trims of both vehicles, a 12-inch color driver information center displays important vehicle information with customizable features. A six-speaker audio system comes standard on lower trims, while other models come standard with premium Bose speakers.

Safety Features

New for 2022, every Tahoe and Suburban comes standard with Chevy Safety Assist, a suite of advanced safety features to help protect you and your passengers on the road. Both SUVs’ standard safety features include forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, a following distance indicator, and IntelliBeam auto high-beam assist. Available safety and driver assistance features for both SUVs include adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert with side blind-zone alert, and HD surround vision.

In addition, every 2022 Tahoe and Suburban comes standard with six or seven airbags to provide maximum protection in an accident. A buckle-to-drive feature prevents the vehicle from moving until the driver fastens their seat belt. If you plan to use the SUV to teach your teenager to drive, both the Tahoe and Suburban offer teen driver technology, limiting or automating certain features to promote safe driving habits.

5 Maintenance Tips to Get Your Kid’s Car College Ready

When your kid goes to college, you want to make sure they have everything they need to succeed. That includes a vehicle that’s ready for the drive, and to get them through the semester without problems. Before your child returns to campus, take your car in for some routine maintenance to make sure that all issues are addressed before they go. You can stop by our Eskridge Chevrolet Dealership in Oklahoma City for any service needs. Here’s a checklist of items to check before your kid’s car is ready to head to school.

Check Their Tires

Before sending the car off to college, check the tire pressure in each of the tires. If the tire pressure is low, it can affect the handling of the car, which can be dangerous for the driver. To properly check the tire pressure, you can refer to the owner’s manual about how much air each tire requires. You may need a tire gauge to get an accurate reading. If it’s low, you may also need a pump for your tire to reinflate it.

While you are checking your tires, make sure you also check the tread. The tread is the texture on the surface of the tire that creates friction between your wheel and the road. Tread is essential to driving safely and making sure your car doesn’t slide on the street, especially in rainy or snowy weather. It can impact how quickly you brake and how steady turns are. If your tires don’t have enough tread, you may need to get new tires.

Additionally, while you’re checking all four tires on your car, you may also want to make sure your car is equipped with a spare tire. A spare nail on the road or an, unfortunately, impact with a curb can pop a tire and create a dangerous situation for a driver. Driving on a flat tire can also impact the structure of your vehicle, so you want to make sure your kid has all the tools they need to change to a spare.

Go one step further and perform the same tests on the spare that you perform on the four in-use tires. Make sure it’s appropriately inflated and that it has the tread it needs. That way, you can trust that even if your child needs to change a tire, they are still taken care of.

Change the Oil

Check to see if it’s time to change the oil. Your child’s vehicle should have a schedule for how often their oil needs to be changed that you can follow. You can take the vehicle to the dealership, and they can let you know if the car is running low on fluid or change the oil if needed.

Changing the oil is an essential aspect of car maintenance, so it may be better to get it out of the way before your child takes theirs to college. That way, you don’t have to worry about it needing any maintenance during the semester. Changing the oil according to a schedule can be a simple way to extend the life of the vehicle. Not changing the oil often enough can cause various problems with the engine and even cause breakdowns.

Update Windshield Wipers

Another quick and easy way to make sure the car is ready for its new life at college is to update the windshield wipers. Windshield wipers can warp with age and lose their ability to keep the windshield clear during inclement weather. A dirty or rainy windshield can decrease the driver’s ability to see, making it more dangerous to drive.

Changing the windshield wipers ensures your child has the best chance of seeing through a crazy storm. You can purchase windshield wipers at auto stores, and may be able to change them yourself. However, if you have any concerns about the mechanics of the windshield wiper frame, you may need to take it to the dealership to have the parts looked at. You can also have them refill the windshield fluid while you’re there. This fluid helps melt ice and clean off dirty windshields.

Get an Emergency Kit

If you want your child to be safe and feel confident on the road, you may purchase an emergency kit for them to keep in their car at all times. These can include essential tools in case of a breakdown, including wheel wrenches and tripod jacks in case they need to change a tire.

They also include jumper cables, high-visibility signage, and a fire extinguisher. Your child can use jumper cables to restart a dead battery. High-visibility signs are a great way to get attention from someone who can help or warn off other drivers from getting too close to the car where people may be standing or working.

Along with purchasing the kit, make sure that you also walk your child through items in the kit, so they feel confident using it if their car breaks down. They may be safer if they know how to change a tire, rather than waiting for someone else to come help. Have a conversation about what can go wrong as a driver and what tools you need to fix it.

Wash the Car

Once you’ve prepared the car and your child for their trip to college, the last thing to do is give the car a wash. Removing any dirt from the car sends it off to college with a fresh start, and can instill a sense of pride in your child. Be sure to clean the outside and the interior of the car, as dirt can get stuck under mats and in hard-to-reach places. Cleaning out the car before your child leaves ensures they are taking it to college in the best possible condition.

If you have any questions about the safety or capabilities of your vehicle, be sure to bring it into Eskridge Chevrolet, where we can take a look at it and ensure it’s in good condition for college. You can contact us or stop by to make an appointment, and we would be happy to change your windshields, oil, and tires to make sure your child has everything they need to start the year off right.

The Chevrolet Malibu is a midsize sedan known for its elegant exterior styling and spacious interior. The 2022 model is no exception. It combines a strong infotainment center in the front console with luxe interior superior safety standards to take over the market for family cars that are both comfortable and practical. The 2022 Chevrolet Malibu was released with four trims, each with different features and pricing to address all aspects of Chevrolet’s customer base. If you’ve already identified the Malibu as the model for you, the next step is to decide which level offers the feature you need.

Malibu LS

Comparing Trim Levels of the 2022 Chevy Malibu

The LS is the Malibu standard trim. It comes with a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission. This engine provides around 160 horsepower, which is powerful for a sedan. It comes standard with front-wheel drive and seats five. This sedan comes in five neutral colors, including Dark Ash Metallic, Summit White, Mineral Gray Metallic, Quicksilver Metallic, and Ebony Twilight Metallic.

This basic trim offers the majority of the external styling you can expect from the Malibu, with rounded edges and sleek sculpting all over the exterior body. A large grill stretches out under the Chevrolet emblem and the sleek, thin headlights give the car a sporty look. It’s aerodynamic, with a strong slope on the windshield and tinted windows. It is 194 inches long and 57.9 inches tall and has four doors, leaving plenty of room for you and your passengers.

The interior of the LS offers plenty of safety features, too. It comes with 10 airbags, Daytime Running Lamps, and an HD Rear Vision Camera. On this trim, you can opt into a few additional safety features like Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. These safety alerts can help you protect yourself and your passengers.

This trim also offers an 8-inch touch screen with the capability to pair to your device and a six-speaker audio system. The interior is spacious and finished with cloth trim. The rear seats fold 60/40 to provide access to the trunk. This access allows you to fit some more oddly shaped cargo, like furniture or tools, into your trunk. The interior of this trim is available in Ebony and Dark Atmosphere combined with Medium Ash Gray.

Malibu RS

The LT is the next trim in line, meaning it will offer a few more bells and whistles. The engine and powertrain are essentially the same, but the LT includes two more exterior colors called Infrared Tintcoat and Twilight Blue Metallic. You can also upgrade the wheels to 18-inch rims, as opposed to the LS’s 16-inch rims. This trim level also has a spoiler on the trunk to add to its sporty look.

Additional improvements on the trim’s interior are the leather-wrapped wheel, which can be a welcome luxurious element for the driver. You can also enjoy a power driver seat that you can adjust as needed. These additional perks may improve your enjoyment of the Malibu if you’re looking for just a touch more luxury than the basic trim.

With this trim, you can opt into more safety features, including Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, and Forward Collision Alert. You can also opt for the Automatic Emergency Braking, which helps you hit the brakes even if you can’t operate the braking system yourself for whatever reason. These additional features can help you stay safe on the road.

Malibu LT

The LT keeps the same engine and transmission and includes front-wheel drive. It also keeps all seven exterior colors introduced in the previous trim. The exterior upgrades to LED taillights and Daytime Running Lamps. It includes heated door mirrors, which can help you maintain visibility in stormy or snowy weather. These changes are small, but they can improve your driving experience. You can include additional exterior changes, like 19-inch wheels, as opposed to the standard 16. This trim is also the first to offer an optional power tilt/slide sunroof.

This trim upgrades the color options on the interior, adding Jet Black with Jet Black Accents and Dark Atmosphere with Light Wheat accents. You can also opt for a heated steering wheel and heated seats, which can be helpful in those colder months. Dual-zone climate control is also introduced at this trim level, which is a system that allows the driver and passenger to choose their climate temperatures.

Malibu Premier

The Premier is the next trim in the lineup and it capitalizes on some of the more luxurious features that the Malibu offers. The Premier boasts a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower. It has the same number of exterior paint colors, but the interior options are only the Ebony and Dark Atmosphere with Light Wheat. This trim also comes with the same 19-inch wheels as the standard.

The car’s interior offers heated and cooled front seats and heated rear seats. You can also charge your phone wirelessly in this trim, increasing the utility of the infotainment center. The safety features in this trim contain everything included in the previous trims, but this trim level adds the Chevrolet Connected Access and the HD Rear Vision Camera as standard features. It also offers a system called StabiliTrak, an electronic stability control system that comes with traction control as well.

If you’re interested in buying a car, you may be in the process of finding an auto loan that works for you. Many lenders want to assess your credit history to determine if you’re a reliable borrower. However, some people have a low credit score, which can complicate the process. Here are some things to consider when preparing to take out an auto loan with bad credit.

Why Does Credit Matter For a Car Loan?

Getting a Car Loan with Bad Credit

When you begin the process of shopping for a vehicle, you may wonder why your credit score matters. Since many vehicles are costly, it’s beneficial for people to take out an auto loan so they can pay for the car upfront. Then, you can pay back the loan rather than paying off the car. In order to take out a loan, the lender needs to assess your credit history to determine how reliable of a borrower you are.

Your credit score can determine what type of loan a lender offers. With a low score, lenders may offer loans with higher interest rates. However, your credit score is not the only factor lenders consider.

How To Get a Car Loan

Getting an auto loan before buying a car is a common first step for people interested in purchasing a vehicle. Obtaining approval for a loan before you make an offer on a vehicle can help you stick with your budget while having the funds to pay for the car right away. There are a few steps you can follow in order to get a car loan.

Run a Credit Check

The first step for potential buyers is to check their credit. If you have a low credit score, you can keep reading to learn a bit more about how to approach the rest of the auto loan process. Looking over your credit score is the best first step since it tells you what approach to take as you prepare to purchase a vehicle. You can check your score once a year online for free.

Decide How Much To Borrow

The next step in the process is to determine how much you want to borrow. Taking out a loan is a big commitment, so it’s important to think through the amount that you can afford. Consider the monthly payment, how much cash you can pay right away, and the length of time you want to spend paying back the loan.

Get Pre-Approval

Many lenders allow you to apply for pre-approval for auto loans. You can have multiple lenders pre-approve you so that you can compare the different offers. This can help you make a decision about a loan that works best for you. Pre-approval can also expedite the process of buying a car.

Choose a Vehicle

Once you’ve chosen the pre-approval offer that you want to use, you can begin shopping for a vehicle. We recommend looking at a variety of Chevrolet vehicles before choosing the one that you want to purchase. You can contact us to learn more about what vehicles we currently have on offer.

Begin Paying Back Your Loan

After signing the paperwork for your new Chevrolet, you can begin to pay back the auto loan. Typically, you can arrange the payment amounts and the length of repayment with the lender. Consider setting up automated payments so you don’t miss any.

Tips To Get a Car Loan With Bad Credit

While the process may sound simple, it’s important to understand a few different methods for securing an auto loan if you have a low credit score. Your score may be low for a variety of reasons, but this doesn’t mean you’re ineligible for a car loan. Consider implementing these tips for getting a car loan with bad credit:

Don’t Be Discouraged

The first suggestion we have is to not let yourself become too discouraged after checking your credit score. Different lenders may have alternative perceptions of credit scores, and there may be an accommodating lender. It’s best to contact multiple lenders to see what options are available to you.

Improve Your Score

Another way you can approach the problem of having a low credit score is by trying to improve it before you take out an auto loan. Depending on the reasons you have a low score, there are a variety of things you can do to increase it. One way to improve your score is by paying down some credit card debt before applying for a loan.

Compare Lenders

As you begin reaching out to different lenders, try to compare multiple offers to find the one with the best rate. One way to find a lender that understands your situation is by applying for a loan from your bank. Since you already have a working relationship with your bank, it may be more willing to approve you for a car loan.

Consider a Co-signer

Lenders sometimes require people with lower credit scores to add a co-signer to their application. If this is the case for you, you can find a co-signer with good credit who is willing to become liable for your loan should you fail to make payments. A spouse or family member would be a good option for a co-signer. If you’re a young adult, you could ask your parents to co-sign the loan for you. This can increase the level of trust the lender has in you, which could improve your interest rates and get you a better deal.

Shop For Several Vehicles

A lender determines the terms of your loan, which can impact the type of car you’re able to buy. This is important to consider, since you may need to shop for many different types of vehicles before finding one that meets the lender’s requirements. Keeping an open mind can help the research and shopping process go more smoothly.

Be Aware of Add-ons

Another thing to consider is being aware of add-ons offered by the lender. A lender may try to add things to your contract, which could increase the total amount of the loan or raise your interest rates. It’s important to have a loan that doesn’t have any add-ons so you can ensure that you can meet your payments.
