We’ve picked five parks and recreational areas in Guthrie and the surrounding area to help you find a new favorite spot. Keep reading to find out about these amazing natural areas in our neighborhood.
Highland Park
Located on East Warner Street, Highland Park offers residents recreational activities and beautiful open space in the heart of downtown Guthrie. President William McKinley deeded the land to the city in 1890, making the park a piece of Guthrie’s history. On the park’s grounds, you can see Highland Hall, a multi-use community center. In the 1930s, the federal government created the National Youth Administration to give young people a chance to earn money and learn work skills. Teams of teens and young adults worked together to construct the building, which was completed by the city in the 1940s.
Highland Park has a wide range of activities for the whole family, including pets. There are year-round walking trails for pedestrians and dog-walkers that cross the 43-acre park and offer views of the pond and downtown Guthrie. Disc golf enthusiasts will enjoy the park’s 18-hole course, and a playground set with swings is ideal for young park visitors. During the summer, a public pool gives visitors a chance to cool off and splash around. You can also reserve Highland Hall for family reunions, wedding receptions, and other events by submitting a request form online and paying a fee.
Mineral Wells Park
Mineral Wells Park, located on South Division Street to the south of downtown Guthrie, is a quiet suburban park with lots of available recreational activities for the family. Open daily until 10 p.m., this park is a great spot for picnicking, meeting friends, and letting the kids run around. There’s a pavilion for family reunions or weddings, so parts of the park might be restricted, depending on what day you visit. However, the playground and recreational areas are typically open for visitors every day.
The park offers a wide range of activities for visitors of all ages. Kids can play on the full playground set or splash around on the splash pad during the summer. Teens and adults might enjoy playing basketball, pickleball, volleyball, or tennis on a set of dedicated courts. There are also horseshoe pits for visitors who want a more low-energy game. Walking trails pass the pavilion and pond, where you can also fish during the open fishing season if you have a state fishing license.
Guthrie Lake
One of Guthrie’s two recreational lakes, Guthrie Lake, is located south of downtown. A 274-acre lake with 4 miles of shoreline, this scenic lake offers a quiet retreat from daily life just minutes from the heart of Guthrie. The lakeside park area features a playground for children, picnic tables, and grills and fire pits for outdoor cooking. You can relax by the lake or have a family barbecue in this unique setting or just walk along the lakeside.
You can fish in Guthrie Lake during the open season if you have an Oklahoma fishing license or a day license from the city of Guthrie. Common fish species found in the lake include catfish, crappie, and bass. The park is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. There are several primitive campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis for visitors who want to spend the night in a natural setting.
Liberty Lake
Located southwest of downtown Guthrie, Liberty Lake features water activities, hiking, and campsites. With 167 acres of water and over 5 miles of shoreline, Liberty Lake is a convenient location for a family picnic, a day on the lake, or an overnight camping trip. The Liberty Lake Trail circles the lake and provides around 6 miles of marked trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. The trail is for intermediate hikers and features several areas of challenging climbs.
The park area has 20 primitive campsites for tent camping on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also picnic tables, outdoor grilling areas, and fire pits for cookouts. The park’s boat ramp makes this lake a great spot for fishing, boating, and water skiing when the weather allows. Common fish include bass and catfish, and you can also see native bird and reptile species in and around the lake. Depending on the season, there might be a camping or boating fee for visitors.
Spring Creek Park
Consider taking a 20-minute drive down to Edmond to visit Spring Creek Park on the banks of scenic Lake Arcadia. Built in 1987, this 194-acre park offers visitors fun activities and breathtaking views of Oklahoma’s natural beauty. You can walk the paved paths, including the Spring Creek Trail, 3.1 miles of multi-lane trail for pedestrians, dog walkers, and cyclists. Other trails follow the path of the lakeshore, allowing you to see marine life and birds.
The park includes a disc golf course, picnic areas, and a playground for younger visitors. The easy access to the lake allows you to bring a kayak, canoe, or boat and launch it from several points on the lake. Different zones in the lake allow swimming, waterskiing, kayaking, and boating. You can also fish from the shore or on a boat in the lake if you have a state fishing license. There are several parking areas, and you might pay a park use fee, depending on the season.
These are just five of Guthrie’s many beautiful natural spaces. These dedicated parks allow Guthrie residents to enjoy Oklahoma’s natural beauty and spend time with their loved ones. If you’re looking for the perfect vehicle for your next Oklahoma adventure, Eskridge Chevrolet is here to help. 2022 Chevy Tahoe Interior Features
Large three-row SUVs have become a popular choice for those who need extra passenger space for their family and friends. The Chevy Tahoe is a good example of such a vehicle, as it can seat up to nine people and provide them with a safe and comfortable ride. These are some of the Tahoe’s most impressive interior features.
Multiple Trim Levels To Choose From

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is available in six different trim levels, including the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Even the base Tahoe has an exceptionally comfortable and tech-rich interior, with higher trims adding more useful amenities. Some of the most impressive interior features for each trim are:
- LS: The base trim comes with many tech options that are only available as options for other vehicles. All infotainment functions can be controlled with the help of a large 8-inch touch screen, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity also being available.
- LT: This trim offers a larger 10.2-inch touch-screen interface and other tech upgrades, like a nine-speaker Bose audio system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a wireless charging pad. It also improves the vehicle’s interior look and feel, with the help of genuine leather upholstery, heated front seats, and memory settings for the driver’s seat.
- RST: This trim adds a new aesthetic dimension to the Tahoe. On the interior, it adds a special jet black interior look, with red stitching for contrast.
- Z71: The Z71 trim is ideal for drivers who want to take advantage of the Tahoe’s off-road capability. Features like hill descent control, front skid plate, and all-terrain tires improve the vehicle’s off-road performance, as well as the comfort and safety of the passengers inside.
- Premier: This trim appeals to those who want to add a luxurious touch to their Chevy Tahoe. It improves previous trims by adding elements like an enhanced 10-speaker Bose audio system, second-row bucket seats, and ventilated front seats.
- High Country: The top-of-the-line trim includes all essential features available for previous trims and adds some of its own. It includes a heads-up display showing important information on the vehicle’s windshield and a surround-view camera system that helps the driver navigate in tight parking situations.
Excellent Interior Space and Comfort
People generally choose SUVs over other vehicle types because of their excellent interior comfort and available space. The Chevy Tahoe excels in both categories and has enough interior space to fit anyone, regardless of their size. Also, the wide-opening doors make it easy to get in and out and there’s plenty of headroom, even in the third row. Once you’re on the road, the fully adaptive air suspension does a great job in canceling out most minor bumps in the road, while the insulation keeps most exterior noises outside the Tahoe.
Ample Storage and Cargo Space
When driving with up to nine passengers, you also need plenty of space to store their belongings during the ride. The new generation Chevy Tahoe has around 10 cubic feet of extra cargo space behind the third row of seats compared to older generations, thanks to its larger size and independent rear suspension system. This pushes the space behind the seats to 25.5 cubic feet. Those who need more space can fold the bottom two rows and get a cavernous 122.9 cubic feet of storage space. There are also plenty of easy-to-reach small storage spaces throughout the cabin.
Advanced and Easy To Use Tech Features
No modern vehicle is complete without plenty of infotainment technology. The Chevy Tahoe’s 10.2-inch touch-screen interface is highly responsive, also providing excellent image quality and quick response times. Besides seamless smartphone connectivity, the infotainment system also features HD satellite radio, voice commands, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo that can be upgraded to a Bose audio system. Other optional tech features include the digital instrument cluster, a second-row entertainment system, wireless device charging capability, and a navigation system. There are also plenty of physical buttons for the most functions you use most.
Useful Active Safety Systems
SUVs are commonly used as family cars, especially three-row ones. This makes safety an even higher priority, which is why the Chevy Tahoe is equipped with plenty of driver aids that help you notice and avoid any potential danger around the vehicle. Some of the most useful features are:
- Forward collision mitigation system: This detects any potential frontal impact and issues a warning, even applying the brakes to mitigate the impact if it senses no input from the driver.
- Lane-keeping assist system: It senses if the Tahoe begins drifting out of its lane without the turn signal being activated and issues a warning before attempting to steer it back to the center of its original lane.
- Blind-spot monitor: This feature warns the driver if any other vehicle enters the Tahoe’s blind spot, helping avoid potential collisions.
- Rear cross-traffic alert system: It scans lateral traffic when backing up and notifies the driver if the Tahoe is in danger of colliding with vehicles and objects coming from the sides.
- Adaptive cruise control: This maintains the vehicle at a constant speed and adapts it to maintain a safe and constant distance between the Tahoe and the car in front.
- Surround-view parking camera system: It gives the driver a top-down view of the Tahoe and its surroundings, which can be very useful when parking in difficult spots.
- Teen driver system: This feature helps you adapt the vehicle for an inexperienced teenage driver by customizing certain features and turning on all other safety systems, while also generating a report card that can help you analyze driving habits.
- Buckle to drive: It discourages driving without a seatbelt by preventing the Tahoe from being shifted out of park if the person in the driver’s seat doesn’t have their seatbelt on.
If you’re looking for a vehicle that’s highly spacious and capable but also has a comfortable and modern interior, the Chevrolet Tahoe may be the ideal choice for you. If you want to see it for yourself and maybe take it for a test drive, contact us at Eskridge Chevrolet.

Chevy Tahoe vs. Toyota 4Runner
Full-size SUVs are great vehicles for families on the go. If you need a car that has enough storage space to pack up the entire team and stays comfortable even on long road trips, then explore your sport utility vehicle options. Both the 2022 Chevy Tahoe and 2022 Toyota 4Runner offer amazing features and impressive specs. We’ve compiled this list to help you learn about each vehicle and the differences between them so you can make an informed choice about which is best for you.
Exciting Trim Levels To Choose From

When browsing through the trim levels for each vehicle, there’s a variety of attractive models to choose from. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe has six available trim levels: High Country, Premier, Z71, RST, LT, and LS. If you want a vehicle that performs well on any road, then take a look at the Z71 with its 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, if you want a comfortable vehicle for long road trips, the LS has Premium Smooth Ride Suspension. All six models offer a great ride and innovative features, so you’re sure to find an option that meets your needs.
The 2022 Toyota 4Runner comes with eight available trim levels: the SR5, TRD Sport, Trail Special Edition, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, and TRD Pro. If you’re looking for a safe family car, take a look at the SR5, which has the Toyota Safety Sense feature. If you want a comfortable driving experience, then you might want to explore the TRD Pro’s high-performance shocks and TRD-tuned front springs.
Innovative Technological Features
Both of these cars are truly modern machines that come with all the tech that you can expect from a new vehicle. Both vehicles come standard with a touchscreen control panel and navigation system. GPS navigation is standard in the Tahoe and is available for the 4Runner, but doesn’t come as part of the standard package. The music quality in both cars is amazing, with eight premium speakers in the 4Runner and a 10-speaker sound system powered by Bose to deliver optimal audio quality.
The Tahoe provides entertainment to all your passengers with its available Wi-Fi connection system. It also comes with built-in Google compatibility, so you can enjoy all the tech you’re used to. The advanced trailering system gives you a full view of your payload when towing and provides automatic correction when the system detects problems on the road.
Explosive Engine Performance and Towing Capacity
Both these SUVs boast powerful engines with serious towing capacity, but the 2022 Chevy Tahoe edges out the 4Runner in this department. The Toyota comes standard with a 4L DOHC 24-Valve V-6, offering 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. This impressive engine has the capacity to handle most towing needs but falls slightly short of the Chevy’s massive powerhouse.
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe comes standard with a 5.3L EcoTec V-8. This solid piece of machinery boasts a whopping 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. While the 4Runner doesn’t offer a choice of engine, when buying a Tahoe you can choose between the V-8 model and the option of a 3.0L Duramax inline six-cylinder diesel engine. You can also pick a third option with the 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8. No matter what engine you choose, each Chevy option outperformed the 4Runner when it comes to horsepower and torque.
Spacious Interiors and Cargo Room
Both of these models offer luxurious interiors with massive storage capacity. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe interior offers a massive 25.5 square feet of standard storage capacity, which can increase to nearly 123 square feet when the seats are down. The 2022 Toyota 4Runner has competitive storage capacity as well, but falls short of the Tahoe, offering roughly 47 square feet of standard capacity and nearly 90 square feet with the seats down.
Beyond the utility of these spacious cabins, both cars offer top-tier comfort with dual-zone automatic climate control systems. They also come with premium leather-trimmed steering wheels that give the driver an amazing driving experience. The Tahoe even offers a heated steering wheel as an optional feature, so you can stay comfortable even on chilly morning commutes. If you pick one of the premium 4Runner trims, you’ll also have access to heated front seats with eight-way power adjustments for the driver and front passenger.
Modern Safety Features
While both of these cars are designed for high-level performance and comfort, they don’t sacrifice any of the modern safety features that you’ve come to expect. Since SUVs like these make the perfect family vehicle, it’s crucial for them to have all the latest systems that keep your loved ones safe. Both of these models hit that mark with systems like stability control, blind spot sensors, and multiple cameras that provide a complete view of your surroundings.
The Chevy Tahoe also offers an intuitive lane departure system that keeps you on track to safely reach your destination. It also comes standard with forward collision monitoring and alerts, which helps prevent accidents and give you peace of mind. The 4Runner benefits from Toyota’s comprehensive Safety Sense program that includes pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beam activation, and more. The Toyota models also come with anti-theft engine immobilization that can help protect your car from unlawful activity. No matter what vehicle you choose, you’ll experience a car that actively keeps you and your family safe on the road.

Chevy Bolt EV: Features, Performance, & Technology
New for 2022, Chevrolet is releasing an updated version of its popular Bolt EV. This modern electric hatchback will offer the environmentally conscious, fuel-saving benefits of an EV along with an enhanced interior and several other perks. If you’re looking to get into the EV game or simply step up your ride, the new EV Bolt may be a great fit. At Eskridge Chevrolet, we want you to find a vehicle that you love. Read on to learn more about the Chevy Bolt and the benefits it can offer.
Chevrolet Bolt EV Range

The 2022 Bolt’s fully electric engine can get you where you need to go, with a range of 259 miles per charge. EPA estimated fuel economy for the vehicle is 131 miles per gallon equivalent, or MPGe, in the city and 109 MPGe on the highway. With a 240-volt charger, you can fully recharge the vehicle in about seven hours, while a 120-volt charger takes longer. With a DC fast charger, you can get up to 100 miles of range in about 30 minutes. As with any EV, charging can be slower in colder temperatures, so be sure to monitor the weather before driving.
With the new dual-level charging cord that comes standard for the Bolt, you can plug your vehicle into a standard, three-prong 120-volt outlet or a 240-volt outlet for charging that goes up to 7.2 kilowatts. This should allow you to easily charge your vehicle at home or on the go. New to the 2022 Bolt, this technology may be a taste of the improved functionality planned for future EVs.
Chevy Bolt EV Performance
The Bolt EV’s electric powertrain can offer 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. It can go from zero to 60 in 6.4 seconds and comes standard with front-wheel drive. Offering one-pedal driving, where the driver can slow down or stop the vehicle by lifting their foot off the accelerator, the Bolt should be fun and easy to drive. With regenerative braking, which saves energy usually lost during braking and uses it to recharge the car’s battery, the Bolt finds another way to conserve energy and maximize efficiency.
Exterior Features of the Chevy Bolt EV
The 2022 Bolt EV comes in two trim levels, the 1LT and the 2LT. While there aren’t many differences between the two trims, you can notice some exterior differences. For example, the upgraded 2LT offers 17-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with carbon flash painted pockets while the 1LT provides 17-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels. Both offer standard black heated power outside mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, and solar-absorbing glass.
Compared to its older version, the 2022 Bolt EV has additional features on the front of the vehicle. You’ll get a new hood with high-mounted LED lights that double as turn indicators. In the back, the new Bolt offers a revised lighting signature for the taillights. This sleek and efficient design reflects the efficient nature of this functional EV.
Interior Features of the Chevy Bolt EV
This five-person vehicle should provide ample headroom despite its smaller hatchback size. While the size of the vehicle has remained the same since earlier versions, some of the most influential differences come in the form of a redesigned interior. Experience features like a tire pressure monitoring system, vehicle efficiency display, steering wheel-mounted controls, remote start, climate control, and power windows and locks standard on all trims. Additionally, an enhanced electric gear shift controller creates more space between the driver and front passenger, adding an extra dimension to the vehicle’s interior appeal.
The 1LT trim offers cloth seating while the 2LT provides leather seating. Although both trims come standard with cruise control, the 2LT offers a more advanced adaptive cruise control system. If you purchase the 1LT, you can include an additional comfort and convenience package that gives you heated driver and front passenger seats, an automatic heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and auto-dimming inside the rearview mirror. Some of these features, like the heated steering wheel, come standard on the 2LT.
Technology
For all your information and entertainment needs, the Bolt EV comes standard with a 10.2-inch touch-screen infotainment system and an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster. All trims offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a Wi-Fi hot spot. The vehicle will also provide wireless charging and phone mirroring. On the 2LT model, you can select an additional infotainment package that provides a premium seven-speaker system with a subwoofer, wireless device charging, and two USB charging ports for rear passengers.
Safety Features of the Chevy Bolt EV
A major benefit of the 2022 Bolt EV is its enhanced Chevy Safety Assist system, which comes standard on all trims. You can enjoy automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, a following distance indicator, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and IntelliBeam auto high beam lights. Available 360-degree camera systems can provide a clear bird’s-eye view of everything around you. The inclusion of these great safety features without extra cost can help keep drivers safe on the road for less money.
If you’d like to add some additional functionality, the 1LT trim offers a Driver Confidence package with technology to keep you protected on the road and minimize any stresses of driving. With this package, you’ll get rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and a special lane-change alert with a side blind zone alert. Combined, this extensive list of standard and available safety and driving features can help you enjoy the drive in your new 2022 Bolt EV. Best Tires for Chevy Tahoe
Tires can highly influence the way a vehicle drives, so it’s always important to understand which tires best fit your individual needs. When you purchase a vehicle like the Chevy Tahoe, you already know that you’re getting a capable vehicle that performs on all terrains and in a variety of conditions. If you plan on using your Tahoe to its fullest potential, you can select new or specialty tires to enhance your experience. At Eskridge Chevrolet, we want you to make the most of your ride. Read on to learn more about some of the best tires for the Chevy Tahoe.
Which Tires Come With the Chevy Tahoe?

When you purchase a Chevy Tahoe from Eskridge Chevrolet, you’ll receive quality tires to drive off the lot. The Tahoe is sold with three different tire types, depending on trim level and wheel size. For models with 18-inch wheels, you’ll get Michelin Energy Saver A/S tires. Four-wheel drive models will receive Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. For 20-inch wheel, four-wheel drive models, you’ll receive Goodyear Wrangler ST-A tires. Two-wheel drive models come with Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology. Finally, 22-inch wheels come with Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tires.
These standard tires are all industry-leading. However, if you want to replace worn tires or switch to tires better suited for especially rough or demanding conditions, it can help to learn more about other available options that match the type of driving you do.
All-Season Driving Tires
One tire type that can get you where you need to go in the rain, shine, or snow is the Michelin Premier LTX. With high responsiveness and stability, these tires will handle sharp turns like a pro. Strong traction, grip, and braking provide a formula for safe driving even when roads are less than ideal.
These wheels come with signature Expanding Rain Grooves around the circumference and Emerging Grooves across the shoulders to take on wet driving conditions. You can also use them in light snow, but for more snowy conditions, you might want to check out a specialty winter tire. In terms of the driving experience, these tires are quiet and comfortable over bumps, keeping you driving without distracting noises or jolts.
For other all-season options, the Chevy Tahoe’s standard Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology and Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus tire options each rank very highly. The Continental’s EcoPlus technology helps lower fuel consumption for your Tahoe, while the Bridgestone Dueler has an impressive towing capacity for an all-season tire. Both varieties perform impressively in all weather conditions.
Off-Roading Tires
If you plan to take your Tahoe on your epic adventures, you may want to look into tires built for roads less traveled. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires are one of your best options for off-roading while still remaining a strong contender for stability, grip, and traction on-road. They can easily handle gravel, sand, rocks, and mud while minimizing bumps on highways and dirt roads alike.
With interlocking tread blocks, loose object ejection design, and Sidewall armor, these tires are tough enough to last through any challenge. Although they aren’t intended as all-weather options, they have excellent traction in wet, dry, and lightly snowy conditions. For every trip and every day, these tires can give you their full performance to keep you going.
Winter Weather Tires
For colder winters, consider investing in winter weather tires that can safely carry your Tahoe. The Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 tires are considered one of the best options for consistently capable handling in the snowiest and iciest conditions. With these tires, you’ll enjoy responsive handling, strong traction, and braking that won’t let you down in rainy, icy, or dry weather.
These tires have a NanoPro Tech Multicell compound with a hydrophilic coating that pulls the water out of ice or snow, leaving you with excellent traction and braking. Even with their emphasis on icy performance, these tires perform quietly and comfortably in all conditions, making them good for a ski weekend or a snowy season. With these tires, safety in the harshest conditions doesn’t have to mean compromise elsewhere.
Towing Big Loads
If you expect your Tahoe to tow even your heaviest loads, you may want to find tires that can do the same. When looking for tires made especially for towing, Load Range E-rated tires can be a good choice to offer the strength and durability you need.
The Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires are a great example of a high-powered towing tire. Equipped with an extra steel belt, the Defenders can withstand up to 13,500 pounds of towing in the range E configuration. You can also look for a range D version of this tire, which is rated for slightly lower towing, but still highly capable.
Importantly, these tires aren’t just strong but dynamic. They give a driver a lot of control when driving or towing, performing well in dry, wet, and light snow conditions. For faster highway driving, these tires are quiet and comfortable. They also maintain steady control, even with heavy loads in tow.
If you’re looking for tires with all-terrain towing capabilities, you also can’t go wrong with the Chevy Tahoe’s standard Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. Thanks to a rugged tread compound that resists chipping, chunking, and tearing when towing a big trailer, these off-road tires are durable and powerful enough to carry you and your cargo anywhere you need to go. If you want a tire made for highway towing, this may not be the best choice, but if you’re looking to push your tires to the limit with rugged, trailer driving, DuraTrac tires may be right for you.
At Eskridge Chevrolet, we want to make sure that you love driving your Chevy Tahoe. That’s why we want you to find the best tires for your ideal ride. If you have any questions about the Tahoe or which tires might fit your needs, you can contact us today. You can also visit our showroom or explore our inventory of Chevy vehicles. 2022 March Madness Breakdown
With NCAA basketball’s Selection Sunday rapidly approaching, March Madness is right around the corner. At Eskridge Chevrolet, we love following this tournament and like to weigh in with our analysis and predictions. Before shopping for a new vehicle, it’s worth checking out our predictions for March Madness and what we think is likely to happen this year. As always with this tournament, expect the unexpected.
Examining Potential March Madness Brackets

When examining potential March Madness brackets, it’s important to review multiple sports sites, including ESPN, to see what the experts had to say about this year’s upcoming tournament. Without breaking down every team that we think will make it, let’s highlight a few predictions that we think will help make this process easier for you when filling out your bracket:
- Top seed: Gonzaga has had some difficulties this season, including losing two early games to Duke and Alabama. However, there’s a good chance they grab the top seed again this year with games against several non-tournament teams for the rest of the regular season. Can anybody stop them before the tourney? It’s hard to say, but it’s not likely.
- Other top seeds: Auburn, Kentucky, and Arizona have good chances to get top seeds this year for March Madness. Kentucky is a perennial front-runner, so their pick here isn’t shocking. Auburn and Arizona have also had standout years, though, and will look to be strong for several years in the future. If they don’t end up in a top-seed position, it’ll be a bit of an unexpected development. That said, you never know what’s going to happen with March Madness.
- Conference parity: All our predictions point to the Big 12, the Big Ten, and the Big East getting at least seven teams into March Madness this year. However, the SEC is looking like it could get six, the ACC five, WCC and Pac-12 four, Mountain West three, and American two. That kind of parity is nice to see, even if the major conferences still dominate and are likely to do so again in this conference.
This year should have some teams, like Marquette, that haven’t made deep runs recently. However, popular favorites like Duke and Kansas have a good shot at making a deep run again this year, so don’t be surprised if any of these teams go straight to the championship game.
Top Teams by Conference
Let’s look at the tops teams in a few conferences to get an idea of what they might bring to the tournament this year:
- Atlantic Coast Conference: Duke typically uses a vigorous defense and strong all-around offense play to thrive. Their high percentage of two-point shots shows a strong close-to-the-basket game, which is unique to today’s style of heavy three-point focus.
- Big 12 Conference: Expect Kansas to rely on Ochai Agbaji and his versatile scoring for a senior presence on the floor in big situations. He and Christian Braun, who’s a highly talented junior, will push this team to the next level in the tournament.
- Big East Conference: Villanova isn’t always strong defensively but is good at run-and-gun transition scoring. Expect big things from Collin Gillespie and Justin Moore, as well as Eric Dixon, to attempt to take Villanova back to the top of the college hoops world.
- Big Ten Conference: Purdue is an offensively grinding team that relies on tough-as-nails basketball, and they’ll likely throw off more precision-based teams by playing physical basketball. Jaden Ivey will lead the team through the tourney, but Zach Edey and Trevion Williams will shore up the defensive end, giving other teams that lack a physical presence nightmares in the tourney.
New Faces and Possible Busts
Getting a top seed is not just a reward for doing well during the season but a potential way of improving a team’s chances at ultimate victory. What kind of seeding are we likely to see in this year’s tournament? Based on our research, past selections, and various other factors, we feel confident breaking down some of the top likely seeds for this tournament.
We’re likely to see some teams earning a bit higher seeds than usual this year, such as Alabama and Auburn. These teams historically have fantastic football teams but have never been basketball powerhouses. However, there’s a good chance that these overachieving teams could push up toward No. 4 or even No. 1 seeds. Auburn, in particular, could be an interesting option here.
What about perennial favorites, like Michigan State and Michigan? Michigan hasn’t had a banner year this season and could even miss the tournament entirely. Michigan State is likely to get in and could have a nice run if Head Coach Tom Izzo pulls his usual tournament magic. They’re likely to be a mid-level seed, such as a 5 or 7, placing them against some really good competition early.
Upsets and Predictions
Here are a few predictions and potential upsets we could see happening this year:
- Gonzaga getting to the Final Four but then getting knocked out.
- Michigan State riding a Tom Izzo miracle to the Elite Eight.
- Duke only squeaking by a surprisingly low seed in the Sweet Sixteen.
- Kansas reaching the Final Four, only to lose by more than 10 points.
- Seattle surprising everyone this year and making a run.
- The final game going to go overtime and beyond.
These predictions and upsets take into account the sheer unpredictability we see every time March rolls around. Building the perfect bracket is incredibly difficult, but maybe this is the year you’ll get lucky.
How Will Our Predictions Hold Up?
These are our bold predictions on what March Madness is likely to bring us again this year. Last year’s tournament was strange, but we think this year will bring things back to normal for the tournament. Whether you’re looking for advice on a perfect bracket or thinking of buying a used car option below $15,000 for yourself or your teens, you can trust us at Eskridge Chevrolet to give you the inside scoop on what you want and deserve.
St. Patrick’s Day Hot Spots & Events
Are you a Guthrie local looking for recommendations for some of the best ways to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in 2022? Or have you recently moved to the area? Either way, if you are looking to explore nearby metro areas like Oklahoma City and Tulsa, you’re in luck because we have put together this list of St. Patrick’s Day hot spots and events for you.
Think About Taking a Road Trip to Shamrock for St. Patrick’s Day

Would you like to take a trip back in time to visit this once-bustling town with street names like Dublin, Killarney, Blarney, and Cork? Shamrock, Oklahoma, was home to 10,000 residents in its oil-boom heyday. Yet by the time the 2010 census was underway, the population had dropped to 101. According to travel writer Kathy Weiser of Legends for America, the town still hosts a yearly St. Patrick’s Day parade despite its low population.
Due to financial issues, Shamrock’s governing body decided to disestablish the town in 2010. Now, this nearly abandoned town appears on lists of Oklahoma ghost towns, like those you can find on the Abandoned Oklahoma website. In his article for Abandoned Oklahoma, Michael Schwarz wrote about an abandoned building in Shamrock that was once a Chevrolet auto dealership. Of course, we are interested in this bit of information.
You can also learn more about Shamrock from the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Legends of America websites. Shamrock is about 60 miles East of Guthrie, and you can take either OK-33 E or OK-105 E to get there.
Enjoy Some Pub Food and Beer for St. Patty’s

Two pubs we recommend are Kilkenny’s Irish Pub and McNellie’s. Kilkenny’s is at 1413 E. 15th St. in Tulsa. You can find McNellie’s at 1100 Classen Dr. in Oklahoma City, at 409 E. 1st St. in Downtown Tulsa, and 7031 S. Zurich Ave. in South Tulsa. Whether you choose to visit the Tulsa or Oklahoma City locations, you won’t be disappointed. If you visit one of the Tulsa locations, you’ll be able to visit Kilkenny’s, just a few minutes away.
Kilkenny’s Irish Pub
If you’re not a fan of the ghost town vibe, but you are looking for some good food, visit Kilkenny’s Irish Pub . Rated in 2020 as one of the “Best Irish Pubs in America” by the Daily Meal and as best in Oklahoma by Irish Central, you can’t go wrong with this Okie favorite. The dark wood decor and Irish memorabilia add flair to the friendly and cozy atmosphere that dozens of reviewers rave about online.
Must-try items on the menu:
- Kilkenny’s Traditional Irish Breakfast
- The Effin Fisherman’s Pie (or the Traditional Irish Stew, if you can’t have seafood) on the dinner menu
- The Guinness Chocolate Cake on the dessert menu
The Traditional Irish Breakfast is on the brunch menu, but you can order it all day long.
Kilkenny’s is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. You can call at 918-582-8282 and join the pub’s mailing list through the website.
McNellie’s
McNellie’s is our absolute favorite pub to visit on St. Patrick’s Day. This regional chain originated in Tulsa, and it is a must-visit for all Okies. We love that it’s all about community for this Oklahoma classic, and the folks at McNellie’s take their St. Patty’s celebrations seriously.
In 2020, the pub was ready to celebrate its annual St. Patty’s block party in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Unfortunately, it had to postpone due to the emerging pandemic. “When I started the pub 16 years ago, it was to try and make Tulsa a better place to live – and that continues to be our company mission statement to this day. Often, it means brightening people’s day by giving genuine hospitality, a good beer and quality food. Today, it means making the tough decision to not put anyone at risk,” said founder Elliot Nelson in an announcement on Facebook.
In 2021, the OKC pub hosted “Good Things Come to Those Who Wait,” a socially distanced St. Patrick’s celebration, with live Irish folk music in the afternoon and one-man-band Hosty performing in the evening. This location also held a “Halfway to St. Pat’s Bash” event in September 2021, with live music on the patio. Additionally, we’re excited to know what McNellie’s OKC is planning for St. Patrick’s Day in 2022.
When it comes to McNellie’s menu, you should try the Patty Melt, a fresh flame-grilled patty on rye bread. We recommend you order it served with sweet potato fries and add your favorite beer. We also recommend that you follow McNellie’s Facebook accounts to get the most up-to-date news, like hours of operation, upcoming events, current beer list, and whether reservations are required.
Take This Other Road Trip First for a Good Cause
While technically not happening during St. Patrick’s Day proper, we recommend taking part in Shamrock the ‘Ville, a Bartlesville, Oklahoma, benefit event. Proceeds go to Mary Martha Outreach, a non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, and crisis aid to those in need in Bartlesville and Northeast Oklahoma. In 2022, the event, which includes a 5K race, 1-mile Fun Run, prizes, and costumes, will take place on Saturday, March 5. You can participate as a runner, a sponsor, or a volunteer. Check out the Shamrock the ‘Ville website or follow the non-profit’s Facebook page for more information.
Bartlesville is about 135 miles away from Guthrie. We recommend you make a weekend trip of it and visit the Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve at 1925 Woolaroc Ranch Rd. while you’re in Bartlesville. You will find a petting zoo, a playground, and 30 species of animals and birds on the grounds. The museum also has a collection of Native American material, Western art and artifacts, and an impressive Colt firearms collection. Admission is $14, but children 12 and under can visit for free. Plan your visit on the website.
So, there you have it. How did you think we did with this list of places to visit to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Oklahoma? Let us know if we missed any of your favorites.
Signs You Need to Have Your Brakes Serviced
A vehicle’s braking system is arguably its most vital component, as any malfunction can have unwanted — and potentially significant — consequences. However, no mechanical component lasts forever, and you’ll have to repair or replace your brakes at some point. You can avoid the risk of your brakes failing by watching for obvious early signs. If you notice any of the signs on this list, get off the road as soon as possible, and have your vehicle checked by specialized technicians.
How Brakes Work
Before discussing some of the most common signs you need to fix your brakes, it’s important to understand how a vehicle’s braking system works. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid releases into the brake calipers, which press the brake pads against the rotors. The brake fluid amplifies the force you apply with your foot, and the resulting friction reduces the wheels’ turning speed, causing your vehicle to slow down and eventually stop.
Common Signs You Need Your Brakes Fixed
These signs can indicate a possible issue with your vehicle’s braking system:

Brake Light Coming On
This first sign is the most obvious. If you see a brake light indicator appear on your vehicle’s dashboard, it’s time for a regular brake maintenance check, or your braking system has a major issue. Regardless, visit a mechanic as soon as possible, as either cause could lead to a brake failure and subsequent accident. Some vehicles have a common indicator for brake system issues and the parking brake being on, so check the latter first.
Vibration or Wobbling While Braking
If you feel a shake or vibration while braking, it could be a sign your brake rotor is uneven. Most vehicles brake by pushing the brake pads against the rotors and, over time, the rotors can wear out at different rates. Although this might not be an immediate danger, the uneven spots will likely deepen over time, gradually reducing your braking efficiency. A mechanic can determine if your rotors can be fixed or if they require replacing.
High-Pitched Noises
A high-pitched noise when hitting the brakes doesn’t always indicate a problem with your braking system. It can also happen if you haven’t driven your car in a while or if a small pebble gets caught between the rotor and brake pads. In these cases, the noise should go away by itself after you hit the brake a few times. If it persists, however, your brake pads might be worn out and need replacing. Modern brake pads have special indicators that make a high-pitched noise when they reach a certain level of wear.
The Car Pulling in One Direction While Braking
If you notice your vehicle drifts left or right while you brake, you might have an issue with your front brakes. This usually happens when the brakes on one front wheel stop working as they should, which causes the vehicle to tilt in the direction of the working brakes. If the same thing happens with one of your rear brakes, you probably won’t notice it, so have your brakes checked periodically even if they show no clear signs of malfunction.
Sharp Burning Smells
If, while driving, you sense a strong chemical smell, your brakes might be overheating. This can occur even if your brakes work well, but you use them extensively over a short period to the point they overheat. If a smell develops randomly, however, one of your brake calipers might be locked, causing friction and overheating. If the problem persists after allowing the brakes to cool for a few minutes, consider calling a tow service, as it might not be safe to keep driving your car.
Soft Braking Pedal
When your braking system runs well, your braking pedal should be firm but not difficult to press. If the pedal is easier to press than normal or goes all the way down to the floor when you press it, moisture or air might have found their way into your braking system. It could also be a sign of damaged brake lines, a worn master cylinder, or other potential braking system malfunctions. A trained mechanic can discover the root of the problem and fix it for you.
Stopping Your Vehicle Takes Longer Than Normal
Many factors can determine your vehicle’s braking distance, including driving surface, weather conditions, and tire quality. However, the most decisive is usually the quality of your braking system. If you notice braking takes longer than it used to, visit a mechanic as soon as possible. This could indicate a flaw anywhere within your braking system, and not having it fixed immediately means it’s at risk of deteriorating further.
Common Braking System Replacements
These are the braking system components most likely to require regular servicing:
- Brake pads: Your vehicle’s brake pads suffer the most friction and are the parts of your braking system that are most likely to break down. Every vehicle manual indicates an optimal time or distance interval at which you should change them, even if they’re running well. Excessively used brake pads tend to overheat and lose some of their effectiveness.
- Brake fluid: Your vehicle’s brake fluid is crucial for the braking system to run well, as it transfers power from the brake pedal to the wheels. Over time, it depletes or loses its consistency, and a mechanic might need to flush or replace it.
- Brake rotor: Your vehicle’s brake rotors are circular discs attached to each wheel that cause your vehicle to slow down when pressed against the brake pads. Although they typically wear slower than brake pads, you’ll have to replace them eventually.
Having a well-functioning and properly serviced braking system can give you the peace of mind that comes from knowing you can depend on your vehicle in a tight situation. Luckily, you can spot most signs of brake issues early, and fixing them is relatively quick and inexpensive.
