Which Fuel Grade Should I Use for My Chevrolet?
As you know, fuel is an essential component when driving your vehicle. If you have a traditional gas-powered engine, it’s impossible for you to get to your destination without it. When you pull up to the gas pumps, you’ll usually be greeted with two or three different fuel grades to choose from. While most of us opt for the gas labeled “regular,” we might not know what that means or why other options exist. Some people are even tempted into choosing the gas labeled “premium” because they assume it is better for their car.
With fuel prices continuing to rise, we all want to make sure that we are choosing the best fuel type for our vehicles. It might seem like gas labeled “premium” is better for our car, but in reality, not all cars will experience better performance with premium fuel.
How Do Fuel Grades Differ?

Fuels are graded based on their octane ratings, which is a measure of the fuel’s stability. Gas-powered engines are combustion engines, meaning that the engines will ignite or fire at specific times. Your engine has pistons that are constantly moving up and down when the engine is running. As the pistons move, they work to compress a fuel-air mixture that is then ignited with a spark, a process known as combustion.
Octane ratings indicate the pressure at which a fuel will spontaneously combust, something known as pre-ignition. If the fuel has a higher octane rating, that means it can withstand more pressure before spontaneously combusting. Since combustion engines are designed to fire at specific times, spontaneous combustion will cause your engine to make an unwanted knocking sound, indicating that something isn’t quite right.
Most regular gas has an octane rating of 87. Premium gas is rated higher, usually around 91 or 93. Most gas stations will also offer a mid-grade gas as well, rated somewhere between 87 and 93. Regular gas will be the cheapest option at the pump, while pricing for premium can be up to 50 cents more per gallon.
Is Premium Gas Better?
Whether or not premium gas is better for your vehicle largely depends on how your car’s engine is calibrated. Simply put, some engines are calibrated to run on premium fuel, but most are not calibrated in a way that would notice an improvement with premium fuel. The vast majority of vehicles are produced to utilize regular fuel. Putting premium fuel in a vehicle that was not designed for premium most likely will not bring any noticeable improvement to your car’s performance or fuel economy.
Some cars, however, are produced with the intent of utilizing premium fuel. These cars are usually high-performance vehicles or vehicles with turbocharged engines. These cars are built with high-compression engines, meaning that if a lower octane fuel is used, then they are more likely to experience engine knocking than if premium fuel is used. Engine knocking is more than just an irritating noise — over time, the action behind the knocking can cause serious damage to your engine that will require costly repairs.
In addition to a decreased chance of pre-ignition, premium gas helps some engines achieve their best fuel economy. If your car isn’t designed for premium gas, you likely won’t notice a difference in fuel economy if you switch from regular to premium. However, for engines designed for premium gas, your fuel economy will suffer if you decide to fuel up with regular.
Does My Chevy Need Premium Fuel?
Premium fuel is recommended or required for most high-performance vehicles or vehicles with turbocharged engines. In order to know if your car requires premium fuel, it’s best to check your owner’s manual. Your manual will indicate the octane rating recommended for your specific car model.
If your owner’s manual states that regular fuel is recommended, there is no need to fill up with premium. While you might be tempted to try premium fuel to see if you notice an improvement in your car’s performance, keep in mind that not all engines are optimized to experience the benefits of higher-octane fuel. Vehicles that were designed to run on regular fuel simply will not benefit from premium fuel. Filling your tank with the more expensive option will be a waste of your hard-earned money.
If your owner’s manual states that your car requires an octane rating of 91 or higher, you definitely do not want to try to cut corners at the gas pump. Vehicles that require premium gas need it for optimal performance and to prevent severe damage to the engine. If you pull up to the gas station and find that they’re out of premium and therefore you have no choice, it will probably be okay if you use regular in an emergency. However, regular fuel should not be used on a regular basis, or else serious damage could occur.
Some car manuals these days say that premium fuel is recommended but not required. If this is the case for your car, then the choice is truly yours. Your car will still run just fine on regular fuel, but if you opt for premium, you’ll notice improvements in your engine’s performance and possibly its fuel economy.
The majority of Chevrolet cars and trucks will run just fine on regular gas. However, if you have a Chevy with a powerful engine, such as a V-8 or turbocharged engine, it’s more likely to require premium fuel. As always, consult your owner’s manual for the final say in which type of fuel is best for your engine.
If you’re unsure about which fuel grade is best for your car, our service technicians here at Eskridge Chevrolet in Guthrie, Oklahoma, will be happy to help. We want drivers in the Guthrie area to feel confident when driving their cars, and that confidence starts with knowing you’re putting the right fuel in your vehicle. Off-Road Trails Around Oklahoma City, OK
As the weather gets warmer, people are looking to get out of town and have some exciting outdoor adventures. Have you been itching to take your four-wheel drive out of the garage and into the wild around Oklahoma City, but you’re not sure where to start? We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite off-road trails around the Oklahoma City area (some further than others) to help you decide where you want to go this weekend.
White Water ORV Park

Approximately 103 miles, or a one-and-a-half-hour drive northeast of Oklahoma City, you’ll find White Water ORV Park, a state favorite for off-roaders. Grab your friends or meet up with some other four-wheel-drive enthusiasts — you’ll find quite a few in the park — and explore the over 80 acres of open land and 10 miles of trails here in your Jeep.
The terrain here is mostly sand, as the area is bordered by the Arkansas River and the Keystone Dam, giving you some impressive sights to look at while driving around and testing your vehicle’s mettle. Should you choose to challenge yourself and your car just a little, the park has a small section near the back with a few steep hill climbs. The best thing about White Water ORV Park is that it’s great for beginners, and there’s no maximum car width limit.
Keep in mind that that spark arrestors are required for all vehicles, and the park is open for day use only between March and November.
Camp Gruber ORV Area
If you’re willing to venture out slightly further and enjoy a much bigger park, you can drive 154 miles east of Oklahoma City (approximately two hours and 20 minutes on the road) to explore the Camp Gruber ORV Area. Over the miles and miles of trails in these 450 acres of land, you’ll encounter a variety of challenging terrains, such as creek crossings and steep hill climbs.
Keep in mind that trailblazing isn’t allowed here, and all off-road vehicles must stick to the established trails. The park is open year-round, and spark arrestors are recommended but not required. If you’re worried about exploring the length and breadth of this park on a day trip, you’ll be happy to learn that camping is allowed on the grounds here.
Most off-roaders love coming here for the famous Camp Gruber staircase, a challenging, bumpy slope. So, get your four-wheel drive, drive around, and stick to the land north of the creek to avoid the public hunting grounds and private property to the south.
Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees OHV Trail
Make your off-road adventure a weekend trip by heading to Grand Lake O’ The Cherokees OHV Trail. If you don’t mind the 187-mile journey toward the state’s northeast corner, which takes just under three hours by car, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful day of off-roading and fishing.
Located near Disney, this trail is just 2.9 miles out and back, but many off-roaders love to combine it with stops at popular fishing spots near the route. It’s recommended to visit this trail from March through October. Though plenty of locals and even Oklahomans from further away come to enjoy the wilderness here, you can still find peace and quiet for a good part of the trail.
Poteau in the Kiamichi Mountains
This is definitely another weekend trip, or perhaps a long weekend trip, but more than worth it for those who want to drive off-road on some of the best trails in Oklahoma. Head out to Poteau, 192 miles east of Oklahoma City (just under three hours by car), and explore the beauty of the Kiamichi Mountains with your four-wheel drive.
Even the most adrenaline-seeking off-roader will be satisfied with the endless variety of trails present in the park and the steep elevation changes thanks to the hilly, mountainous landscape around Poteau. The trails here are definitely not for the faint of heart, especially on Poteau Mountain.
You can start with some of the shorter mountain trails, such as the short but steep Snowball Trail on clay terrain or Roller Cam, named because of the high rpm it requires to ascend. Then, if you’re feeling up to it, take your chances on the steep Waterfall Trail, which is full of jagged outcroppings and loose rocks, all on an incline that will challenge both your tires and your stamina.
Be advised that the only way to get out of the Waterfall Trail after reaching the end of the descent is to climb back up. Most visitors to the park finish off this trail adventure with a swift ride down the 8 Seconds trail, which will take you out of the forest and back onto paved roads — simply hold on tight and enjoy the super-fast thrill ride down to the bottom.
If you want to explore some trails off the mountain, take a crack at Cavanaugh Hill, which is technically the tallest hill in the world at 1,995 feet (anything higher than 2,000 feet is considered a mountain). Some of the most popular trails here include the Rattlesnake Trail, the Panel Wagon Trail, and one of the most difficult ones on the hill, the Axle Breaker Trail. When you reach the occasional clearings in the densely wooded landscape, the trails here reward drivers with incredible views of the Poteau River Valley and the town of Poteau below.
Little Sahara OHV Trail
For a long, challenging, yet fun route in a unique landscape, head to Little Sahara OHV Trail near Waynoka, a two-hour-and- 10-minute drive (134 miles) northwest of Oklahoma City. The trail is 13.9 miles out and back and features an elevation gain of over 530 feet.
Traverse over the sand dunes in this year-round park and enjoy some night riding, as long as you have tail and headlights. This trail requires whip flags, and you’ll also probably encounter a lot of ATVs in the area.
Before heading off for your fun day trip or weekend off-road adventure, swing by our service center to check your four-wheel drive and ensure it’s ready for all kinds of terrain. If you know of an off-road trail near Oklahoma City that we missed, contact us at Eskridge Chevrolet and let us know.

Chevy Bolt vs. Nissan Leaf
The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle (EV) is a fantastic option if you’re searching for a powerful, reasonably priced all-electric hatchback. You’ll get the modern Chevy experience while leaving a low carbon footprint. Even though it’s frequently compared to the Nissan Leaf, these two electric cars differ in several ways. Take a look at this detailed comparison between the latest Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf.
Bolt vs. Leaf: Trim Levels and Colors

The 2023 Bolt EV has two trims: 1LT and 2LT. The latter comes with 17-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with carbon flash-painted pockets, and the 1LT has 17-inch silver-painted aluminum wheels. The Bolt has split headlights with compact LED daytime running lights and a blacked-out lower cluster leading into the glass housing. The Bolt’s C-pillar design creates a high cabin roof, and both heated power side mirrors and solar-absorbing glass come standard. Seven colors are available on the Bolt EV: Cherry Red Tintcoat, Summit White, Mosaic Black Metallic, Silver Flare Metallic, Nightfall Gray Metallic, Ice Blue Metallic, and Brilliant Blue Metallic.
The 2023 Nissan Leaf also comes in two trim levels, the S and SV Plus. Covered 16-inch steel wheels are included with the S trim, and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are added with the SV Plus. Intelligent automatic headlights, an illuminated grille insignia, dual power outside mirrors, and solar glass are available on both trims. Like the Bolt EV, the Leaf also has seven color options: Gun Metallic, Super Black, Deep Blue Pearl, Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Pearl White Tricoat, and Two-Tone Pearl White Tricoat/Super Black.
Bolt vs. Leaf: Power and Charging
The Leaf is available with two different powertrains. A 40 kWh battery gives the S 147 horsepower, 236 lb-ft of torque, and a 149-mile driving range, which compares to similar electric hatchbacks. The SV Plus is a considerable improvement, boasting a 226-mile driving range thanks to a 62 kWh battery that delivers 214 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.
The Bolt EV is the clear winner with a range of 259 miles and a 60 kWh battery producing 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy’s battery is more powerful than the Nissan Leaf’s, but it also charges more swiftly, allowing drivers to return to the road as soon as possible. With a Level 2 charger and 240 volts, you can charge your Bolt at a rate of 11 kW, which equates to 7.5 hours for a full charge.
Keep in mind, as well, that needing to recharge from full is unlikely for most drivers. With Level 2, the 40 kWh battery in the S takes eight hours to fully charge, while the bigger 60 kWh battery in the Leaf SV Plus takes up to 11 hours.
Bolt vs. Leaf: Interior Comfort
The Leaf and Bolt’s hybrid capabilities are both outstanding, but that’s just the beginning. They’re also fitted with exquisite cabins built for comfort and convenience. Both EVs have a lot of interior characteristics in common, including automatic climate control, heated front seats, push-button start/stop, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats. You can also get a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel added to either vehicle.
In terms of roominess, however, the Bolt takes the lead in this comparison. It offers second-row passengers 36 inches of legroom and front passengers 44.3 inches, as opposed to the Leaf’s 33.5 inches in the rear and 42.1 inches in the front. Finally, although the Leaf offers a cargo area of 23.6 cubic feet behind the second row, folding the back seats only unlocks a total of 30 cubic feet. The Bolt EV may have 16.6 cubic feet in the back, but the total available capacity is 57 cubic feet with the second row folded.
Bolt vs. Leaf: Performance and Driving
Neither the Bolt nor the Leaf is a sports car, yet they both deliver the powerful acceleration of premium electric motors. The Chevrolet Bolt accelerates faster, hitting 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The Nissan EV needs 7.4 seconds or 6.8 seconds for the SV Plus. Both cars have snappy, effortless handling — sterling examples of how to design a small, agile car. They also provide a one-pedal driving mode you can switch in or out of at any time.
Bolt vs. Leaf: Technology
Both the Leaf and Bolt have impressive suites of connectivity and infotainment technologies. The two have a lot of similar characteristics in this area, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included standard. Both also share speech recognition software, Bluetooth connections, and other common technology features included standard.
Most Guthrie drivers will prefer the look and feel of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt, in large part due to its 10.2-inch diagonal color touch screen, compared to the Leaf’s 8-inch touch-screen display. With accessible wireless device charging, not standard in the Leaf, the Bolt EV lets you easily stay connected on those longer journeys.
Bolt vs. Leaf: Pricing
Both the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Bolt start at less than $30,000 for the base trims, making them excellent choices for motorists on a tight budget. That said, the Bolt’s entry-level and upgraded trims cost less than the corresponding Leaf models. The MSRP for the Bolt EV starts at $26,500 for the 1LT trim (excluding destination fees) and rises to $29,700 for the 2LT trim. Perhaps the most exciting offer is the Bolt EV 2LT, which includes the whole Driver Confidence Package and other available add-ons for the 1LT.
Pricing for the Nissan Leaf S starts at $28,040, while the SV Plus model is $36,040. Although the SV Plus has more features, we think Guthrie, Oklahoma, drivers will prefer the Bolt 2LT, which is only slightly more expensive than the Leaf’s base trim. With the right special discounts or programs from a Chevy dealership like ours, you can make the deal even better.

Is it Better to Lease or to Finance a New Car?
Buying a car is an exciting time — the thrill of the hunt for the perfect car, the elation that comes when you find “the one,” the happiness you feel when you take that first drive home from the dealership after closing the deal on your dream car. But wrapped up in all that excitement are some very big decisions that have consequences for many years down the road. One of the main factors you need to consider when buying a new car is how you plan on paying for it.
When buying a car, you have three options: purchasing, leasing, or financing. Purchasing a car means paying cash for the full price of the car. The car is immediately yours, and you receive the title right then. Leasing the car involves paying for the use of the car for a predetermined period, usually three years. Financing a car involves taking out a loan to pay the price of the vehicle and then paying back that loan over a set amount of time. But which option is the best for you? Learn more about your options below.
What’s Involved With Leasing a Car?

When you lease a car, you’re essentially paying for the opportunity to use that car for a set period, usually three years. You are essentially paying the value of the depreciation of the vehicle over that period. Depreciation is the loss of value of a car, so if you lease a car for two years, you’ll pay the amount of depreciation that the car is expected to experience over the two years.
When you lease a car with a dealership, you’re expected to pay some fees upfront before you take it home. These costs include the first month’s payment, a refundable security deposit, acquisition fees, taxes, and registration fees, among others. Each month, you’ll pay a monthly payment to cover the depreciation of your vehicle plus interest and taxes.
Benefits of Leasing a Car
The biggest benefit of leasing a car is a lower monthly payment. Since you’re just paying for the depreciation of the car for a short period of time, you’re paying for far less than the total amount of the vehicle. You can drive a brand-new vehicle that’s equipped with the latest features and technology while the manufacturer’s warranty still covers it. This means you’re driving the car during its prime when things rarely go wrong. And if they do go wrong, the warranty should still cover any maintenance or repair costs.
Since your monthly payment will be lower than if you financed a car, you’re usually able to drive a more expensive vehicle by leasing it. Once the terms of the lease are up, you can return the car to the dealership and not worry about the hassle of selling it when you’re ready to move on.
Drawbacks of Leasing a Car
Leasing a car is not without its disadvantages. The biggest drawback is that you’ll never be the owner of the vehicle. You’re not earning any equity in your vehicle when you make your monthly payments, and you’ll never get to a point where you pay off the car. Additionally, you must make sure to keep the car in good shape when you’re driving it. Once your lease is up, the dealership can charge you excess wear-and-tear fees if you have any scrapes, scratches, or tears.
Leased vehicles also come with mileage restrictions, typically anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 miles per year. If you go over this limit, you’ll be charged extra at a per-mile rate, typically between 10 and 25 cents for each mile over the limit. Since you’re not the owner of the vehicle, you’re not allowed to make any changes or alterations to your car while it’s in your possession. If you decide you don’t like the car and want to get something else before your lease terms are up, you’ll be subject to very costly early termination fees.
What’s Involved With Financing a Car?
When you finance a car, you’re taking out a loan for your vehicle, either directly from the dealership or through another financial institution. You’ll need to pay a down payment, taxes, registration, and other fees before you can take the car home. Your monthly payment will be higher than it would be if you leased the car since you’re paying for the total amount of the vehicle. Your monthly payment will also vary depending on how much money you have for the down payment.
Benefits of Financing a Car
When you finance a car, you acquire equity in the vehicle each month. If you decide to sell the car before the loan has been paid off, you can use the money from the sale to pay off the loan. Once the loan terms end, the car becomes yours, and you’ll be able to go months or years without having to make a car payment.
Since the vehicle is yours, you can make any modifications you want, and you don’t have to worry about extra charges for excessive wear and tear. Unlike with leasing a vehicle, there are no mileage limitations involved with financing a car.
Drawbacks of Financing a Car
When you finance a vehicle, your monthly payment will be higher than if you lease it. This means that you’re more limited in the types of cars you can afford. You’re also going to be responsible for all maintenance and repairs once the manufacturer’s warranty expires.
Ultimately, the decision to lease or finance your vehicle depends on what’s important to you as the driver. If you enjoy driving a brand-new car every couple of years or are working on a tight monthly budget, leasing a car might be your best option. If you care more about saving money in the long run by gaining equity in your vehicle, or if you drive often and take long road trips, financing a car is the way to go.
At Eskridge Chevrolet in Guthrie, Oklahoma, we’re here to help you make your decision. Contact us today if you have any questions about leasing or financing your car.

How to Transfer a Car Title in Oklahoma City
Transferring ownership of a vehicle is an important process that has specific requirements depending on the state. In Oklahoma, the government agency in charge of vehicle titling and registration starting January 1, 2023 is Service Oklahoma (SOK), which is a division of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services. Previously, it was the Oklahoma Tax Commission, specifically its Motor Vehicle Division, that took care of the process. The team at Eskridge Chevrolet in Guthrie, Oklahoma, has written this guide to help you understand the process and its requirements.
What Is a Vehicle Title?
A vehicle title is an official document that serves as proof of the legal owner of a vehicle. The state issues it when you purchase a vehicle, and you must update it when you transfer the vehicle’s ownership. It lists important information about the vehicle, including its vehicle identification number (VIN), year of manufacture, make and model, and other pertinent details. It also contains information about the vehicle’s current owner and any liens on it.
A title is different from a registration, which is a certificate showing that the car is allowed to operate on public roads and that the owner has paid the applicable taxes and fees. And while a title is only updated when the vehicle’s ownership is transferred, you should renew a registration every year or two, depending on the state.
When is a Vehicle Title Transfer Necessary?

Transferring a car title is important whenever the ownership of the vehicle changes. This ensures that the new owner can legally register and operate the vehicle and is up to date with all the applicable taxes, fees, and insurance requirements. It also protects both the buyer and the seller from any legal liabilities that may ensue from a transaction gone wrong. Here are the most common instances when a title transfer may be necessary:
- When you buy or sell a vehicle.
- When you inherit a vehicle.
- When you donate or gift a car.
- When you move to a different state.
- When the registered owner passes away.
- When the name on the title needs changing.
- When the lien holder on the title needs changing.
How To Transfer a Vehicle Title in Oklahoma
The steps for transferring a vehicle title in Oklahoma can vary slightly depending on the reason for the transfer and the details of the transaction. Generally, though, here are the steps to follow:
- Gather the necessary documents and information: This often includes the car title, a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and other information such as the odometer reading and VIN. You may need to allot time to have certain documents signed and notarized, fill out forms, and have the vehicle inspected.
- Proceed to a SOK or licensed operator location: There are more than 200 locations you can visit statewide for vehicle title and registration transactions. If you’re in Guthrie, there’s a Tag Agency along South Division Street that can process a title transfer.
- Submit the documents: When presenting your documents, make sure to keep copies of these and any receipts for fees you pay. These are useful for your records.
- Pay the necessary fees: These usually include an ownership transfer fee of $17. If there’s a lien on the title, a processing fee of $10 (in-state) or $13 (out-of-state) may apply.
- Take receipt of your car title: Typically, SOK issues vehicle titles within 30 days. If you didn’t purchase a vehicle from a dealer, you’ll receive the title in the mail.
Requirements for Transfer of a Vehicle Titled in Oklahoma
If you’re transferring ownership of a car titled in Oklahoma, these are the items you need to take with you to your chosen SOK or licensed operator location:
- Certificate of title that’s notarized and properly assigned.
- Current vehicle registration.
- Valid driver’s license (for individuals) or Federal Employer ID or FEI number for other entities, such as businesses.
- Verification of liability insurance.
- Lien release if the vehicle is subject to a lien.
- Completed Form 729, or Odometer Disclosure Statement, for vehicles of model year 2011 and newer.
- Completed Form 722-1, or Declaration of Vehicle Purchase Price, or a bill of sale, purchase contract, or purchase price documentation.
Requirements for an Out-of-State Vehicle Title Transfer
If you’re transferring a car titled in another state to Oklahoma, the process may also include registering the vehicle. This means you’ll need to bring the car to an SOK or licensed operator location to verify its VIN and mileage. You may also require the following items:
- Out-of-state certificate of title.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proof of insurance for the vehicle in Oklahoma.
- Completed Form 701-6, or Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title for a Vehicle, Trailer, or Manufactured Home.
Tips When Transferring a Vehicle Title in Oklahoma
Here are some tips to keep in mind when you’re transferring a vehicle title in Oklahoma:
Understand the Process
Even if you’re purchasing a new car and the dealer is handling the transfer, it’s helpful to familiarize yourself with the process so you understand what to expect. At Eskridge Chevrolet, we make things easier by handling the paperwork for you and ensuring a smooth transfer of the title when you buy a vehicle from us.
Do Your Research To Streamline the Process
Find out what documents you require and make sure you have them ready. Gather information about the vehicle you’re transferring, such as the VIN, the odometer reading, and the lien holder, if there is one. This’ll help you complete the forms quickly and accurately.
Complete the Title Transfer on Time
In Oklahoma, you must complete the application and issuance of a title within 30 days of obtaining ownership of a vehicle. Ensure that all the documents required are complete and accurate to prevent any delay in the process. Failing to transfer the title within the allotted time may result in penalties and fines, so it’s important to be mindful of this information.

Questions to Ask When Buying a Used Car
Purchasing a used vehicle can come with many benefits, including a cheaper price tag and a lower depreciation rate. Even with those benefits, it’s still important to take some other factors into consideration so you can feel confident in your investment. Whether you plan to purchase a pre-owned vehicle from a dealership or a private seller, here are 10 questions to ask when buying a used car to help you through the process.
How Old Is the Car?

More than likely, the car’s age is one of the first factors you’ll consider when shopping for a used vehicle. It’s important to know how old the car is so you can estimate its current value. According to Kelley Blue Book, most vehicles depreciate by 20% within the first year and 60% within the first five years, though it depends on the make and model. Research the value of the car online before you go to the dealership or meet with a private seller. Knowing this information, you may be able to negotiate the price of the car.
How Many Miles Does the Vehicle Have?
In addition to age, the car’s mileage provides information about its use and value. If a used car has low mileage, it’s likely worth more, and vice versa. It can also make a difference if previous owners used the car more for city or highway driving. City driving, which usually involves bumpier roads, lower speeds, and more idling, can affect the vehicle’s braking and suspension. It’s worth asking about the car’s driving history to help you make an informed decision.
Does the Car Come With a Warranty?
While many people associate warranties with new cars, the truth is that many used cars may still be under a manufacturer’s warranty. In addition, dealerships may sell certified pre-owned vehicles, which usually come with additional protection. For example, at Eskridge Chevrolet, our Chevrolet certified pre-owned vehicles come with a one-year, 12,000-mile limited warranty and an extended powertrain warranty. This type of warranty can provide extra peace of mind when purchasing a used car.
Does the Car Have Visible Exterior Damage?
Take some time to inspect the vehicle for visible dings, scratches, or dents. While you may be able to live with minor blemishes, major damages can indicate structural problems that could result in costly repairs. Some areas to check out while inspecting the vehicle include:
- Paint scratches or areas of rust.
- Windshield chips or cracks.
- Dents in the wheels.
- Worn or cracked tires.
- Foggy or cracked headlights or taillights.
How Does the Interior Look?
Once you’ve inspected the outside, take a close look at the car’s interior, since that’s where you’ll spend most of your time. Sniff around for any strange odors, like smoke or mildew. Check the upholstery for obvious tears or stains. While you’re in the car, turn it on so you can test the heating, air conditioning, and audio system. Don’t forget to look in the trunk for signs of water damage or mold. You know yourself best, so ask whether you can handle the imperfections you may find inside a used car.
Has the Vehicle Been Involved in Any Accidents?
A used car that’s been in a minor accident or two likely won’t have lasting damage. A history of major accidents may be a sign that you’ll be paying for repairs well into the future. Make sure you ask about the vehicle’s history so you know whether it’s had previous damage and repairs. You can always ask to see a vehicle history report, which will provide this information. Most dealerships will give you this report, and private sellers can get one from places like Carfax.
Can I Take the Car for a Test Drive?
You wouldn’t buy a new car without taking it for a test drive, so do the same when purchasing a used vehicle. Pay attention to how the car drives, including its braking, responsiveness, and handling. Even with all the information you now have about the vehicle, a test drive will give you the greatest sense of whether you’ll be happy driving it on your daily commute in Guthrie, Oklahoma. If a private seller refuses to let you drive the car, it’s probably a sign to keep looking.
Does the Car Come With Additional Perks?
Even when buying used, a new car is a serious investment, so it’s worth asking if it comes with additional perks. Private sellers may have outfitted the car with accessories they’ll include in the sale. At a dealership, you may get even more benefits with your used car. At Eskridge Chevrolet, we offer a range of perks when you purchase a certified pre-owned Chevrolet, including 24/7 roadside assistance, complimentary maintenance, and a satellite radio subscription.
How Does the Car Affect My Insurance Premium?
Purchasing a new car, even a used one, may affect the cost of your auto insurance. In addition to the cost of the vehicle, consider this expense so you can stay within your budget. For example, purchasing a much newer vehicle than the one you currently drive may cause your premium to go up. Before you buy a used car, contact your insurance company for a quote so you know what to expect.
What Type of Financing Is Available?
One benefit of buying a used car at a dealership is the ease of financing. Unless you plan to pay for the used car in cash, a dealership can work with you to find financing options within your budget. Many dealerships, including Eskridge Chevrolet, will even work with buyers who have bad credit or no credit to help them secure financing. At a dealership, you may also be able to trade in your current vehicle as a down payment toward the new car.

One of the easiest ways to conserve cash is to purchase or lease a fuel-efficient vehicle. The less fuel your car uses, the fewer trips you’ll need to make to the gas pump. And with gasoline prices constantly fluctuating (and usually increasing), fewer trips to the gas station are always better.

Most Fuel-Efficient Subcompact Car: Camaro (Rear-Wheel Drive)
Depending on the trim level you choose, the 2023 Chevrolet Camaro has a V-6, V-8, or four-cylinder engine. Those interested in maximizing their Camaro’s fuel efficiency will want to select the four-cylinder trim. This version achieves 25 mpg combined (22 city/30 highway), meaning you can go 100 miles on 4 gallons of gas.
Even if you opt for this most fuel-efficient version, the 2023 Camaro delivers a powerful and exciting driving experience. Additionally, you’ll get a smooth ride with its quality base suspension. The Camaro’s responsive handling adds to this smoothness, ensuring that you’ll have a satisfying experience behind the wheel. This latest generation of Camaro also features several interior improvements from its predecessors, such as higher-quality materials and even more comfortable front seats, which add to the overall experience.

Most Fuel-Efficient Truck: Silverado (Two-Wheel Drive)
At 26 mpg (23 city/33 highway) and with a Duramax 3.0-liter inline-six engine, the 2023 Silverado Two-Wheel Drive is Chevy’s most fuel-efficient truck. Moreover, this version of the Silverado ties the GMC Sierra as the most fuel-efficient full-size pickup on the market.
And the Silverado accomplishes this fuel economy without sacrificing power. The Duramax diesel engine reaches 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, and it can tow up to 9,500 pounds. Plus, the Silverado’s interior matches the quality of its engine. Depending on the trim you select, this truck comes loaded with all the design, technology, and comfort features you need.
With storage cubbies spread throughout the cabin and a carbon-fiber reinforced bed, the Silverado is spacious and tough enough to haul almost anything. You can also pick between three different bed lengths depending on your preference. No matter the job, you can rest assured knowing your Silverado can handle it.
Most Fuel-Efficient SUV: Trailblazer (Front-Wheel Drive)
Chevy’s most fuel-efficient 2023 SUV is the Trailblazer Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) with the three-cylinder, 1.3-liter engine. This version of the Trailblazer reaches 31 combined mpg (29 city/33 highway), so you can go 100 miles on 3.2 gallons of gas.
With this fuel efficiency, excellent cargo space, and top-of-the-line technology, the 2023 Trailblazer makes an ideal vehicle for families, campers, or carpoolers. The Trailblazer’s fold-flat rear seats and folding front passenger seat give you extra space for extra-large or long cargo.
The Blazer’s newest optional infotainment system allows you to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time. The infotainment system and optional seven-speaker Bose stereo system are an audiophile’s dream. Additionally, the Trailblazer comes standard with automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
Most Fuel-Efficient Midsize Car: Malibu (FWD)
The 2023 Chevrolet Malibu is the most fuel-efficient midsize car Chevy offers. With a four-cylinder, 1.5-liter engine, the Malibu achieves a combined 30 mpg (27 city/35 highway). Altogether, you can travel 100 miles in your Malibu on 3.3 gallons of gas.
Every Malibu utilizes a continuously variable transmission (CVT), giving the car a smooth driving experience. The engine and transmission combine with a comfortable and technologically advanced interior to deliver a superb ride, whether a driver or a passenger. Plus, with a large trunk and plenty of carry-on capacity in the cabin, the Malibu is perfect for all types of individuals and families.

The Bolt EV gets a combined 120 MPGe (131 city/109 highway) — or miles per gallon equivalent, in which one gallon of gasoline is the equivalent of 33.7 kWh of electricity. So, you can drive 100 miles in your Bolt EV with only 28 kWh of electricity, the equivalent of less than a gallon of gas.
Every Bolt EV delivers an easy and unique driving experience thanks to its one-pedal driving feature. Its quiet engine, nimble handling, and quality infotainment system make the all-electric subcompact an overall excellent driving experience.
